The first week of 2020, as it was expected, was marked by calm on freight market due to the New Year and Christmas holidays. Most of shipowners and charterers have made deals before the new year to have a chance not to work at least on holidays.

This led to a decrease in freight rates compared to the rates of the last week of 2019. The price for shipping 3,000 metric tons of wheat from Azov to Marmara sea ports has decreased by USD 2 and has reached the level of 21 dollar PMT.

The Caspian region was also marked by a decline in freight rates. The price of shipping 3000 mts of corn from Astrakhan to Iranian northern ports are USD 36 PMT on the first week of new year.
