On the 17th week there is a decrease of freight market in the Azov sea region. The freight rate for shipment of 3000 mts of wheat from Azov to Marmara sea ports has reached the level of USD 20-21 PMT.
The same situation is on the Caspian Sea market, where freight rates for shipment of 3000 mts of corn are already equal to USD 31 PMT.
The decrease of freight rates and the number of shipments from Russian ports may be connected with the risks of exhaustion of the export quota before planned June, 30. In this regard, many exporters can stop their work earlier than new grain season start .
Let us recall that a quota for the export of 7 million tons of cereals from April 1 to June 30 was introduced for export of wheat, corn, rye and barley. At the moment 3 million tons of grains were already exported by this quota.
Due to this and the possibility of quota ending by mid-May, many companies prefer not to risk and not to conclude contracts even on May dates and prefer to sell goods on the inner market, what has led to an increase in demand for cabotage river shipments.
On the deep sea market there is an active export of grain and fertilisers cargoes. On the 17th week there is a
fall of the coal market due to the closure of many factories because of quarantine, as well as the allocation by the ports of a larger number of quotas for grain cargoes than coal ones. Freight rates for 30k shipment from Novorossiysk to Mediterranean ports remain at the level of USD 15.5-16 pmt.
